2012 CORI Annual Potluck Luncheon/Meeting‏

I'm sending out this reminder to all members, and former members, of Cornucopia. Coming up this Saturday, September 22nd, 2012, will be our annual potluck luncheon/meeting.  The event will take place at the Jamestown Public Library from 10:00am until 2pm.  This year Dr. William Simmons of Brown University will be the guest speaker.  He will be presenting a talk on the Native American artifacts stored in the Jamestown Library.

Dr. Simmons graduated from Brown University in Human Biology in 1960, and earned his Ph.D. in Anthropology at Harvard University in 1967. From 1967 till 1998 he was a faculty member in the Department of Anthropology at the University of California at Berkeley, where he was Department Chair, Director of the Center for the Teaching and Study of American Cultures, and Dean of the Division of Social Sciences. In 1998 he moved to Brown University as Executive Vice President and Provost, and is currently Chair of Anthropology. He currently serves on the boards of the Providence Public Library, the Rhode Island Historical Society, and the Providence Branch of the NAACP.  He has written many books on Native American culture, including "The Ancient Graves of Conanicut Island" and " The Narragansett" part of the series of "North American Indians".  He is very familair with the artifacts stored at the Jamestwon Library and I hope that you will be able to attend this year's meeting to connect again with CORI and to hear Dr. Simmons speak.

This will also be an opportunity for you to renew your membership in CORI.  As in the past, dues remain at $20.00 per year.  The dues that are collected support CORI's endeavors to present seminars, and to continue to spread the universal message of diversity.  With the collection of dues, and your presence at meetings, these events are possible.  We would really like to see past members, and new members, attend our upcoming meetings so that CORI may continue the presentations and seminars that have been well attended.

Attached is a dues form, if you cannot make Saturday's potluck.  Please contact me, kathy747@verizon.net or any of our other officers, Ida Mcghee, Secretary,imcghee2003@yahoo.com, Donna Gilton, Vice-president,dgilton@uri.edu; or MaryElizabeth Berry, President, melizabeth7428@gmail.com if you have any further questions.

We hope to see you Saturday, and until then enjoy the beautiful fall weather we are having!

Regards,

Kathy Hannuksela, Treasurer
