Part time Night and Evening Circulation Supervisor position at Salve Regina (RI)

McKillop Library is looking for a 21 hour a week Night and Evening Circulation Supervisor to join our team! This position is September-May while classes are in session. The incumbent will serve on the library’s circulation desk Friday evening and 10-5pm Saturday, with other hours flexible.

 McKillop Library seeks highly reliable and service-oriented candidates for the position of Circulation Supervisor, Night and Weekend. The incumbent will provide exemplary service to library patrons while supporting their access to information, resources and materials. The Circulation Supervisor, Night and Weekend will provide circulation, interlibrary loan, and limited reference service, working closely with the circulation team to set and implement library policies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Oversees evening and weekend library circulation desk operations, opening, closing, handling emergency situations and maintaining library equipment.

·         Coordinates circulation desk student coverage gaps due to illness, vacations or other absences. Serves as primary contact for desk operations (including answering phones and departmental emails) during evenings.

·         Supports provision of interlibrary loan services.

·         In collaboration with the public services team, assesses current services and identifies improvements by analyzing user data and national academic library trends.

·         Assists with collection maintenance projects i.e.: shelving, shifting, pulling books, etc.

·         Ability to work weekend and evening hours required. Adjustment of regular schedule may be required during the semester.

 

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

May provide limited research service when library's research librarians are not available.

 

Requirements:

·         High school diploma required.

·         Prompt, accountable and reliable.

·         Demonstrated strong "people skills," including a positive, friendly, approachable and service-oriented demeanor.

·         Strong commitment to providing excellent and inclusive services to a diverse population of faculty, staff, students, and community members.

·         Ability to work independently and take initiative, with a focus on high-touch patron service.

·         Previous experience with computers and proficiency in MS Office programs required.

·         Excellent organizational, interpersonal and supervisory skills required.

·         Must be able to lift and carry at least twenty (20) pounds.

Systems & Technology Librarian at Salve Regina (RI)

 

McKillop Library seeks a highly service-oriented, creative Systems & Technology Librarian to maintain and develop digital and technology services to support research, teaching, and learning at Salve Regina University. Working with other librarians, staff, and campus partners, the incumbent will envision and implement new technology services while continuing to evaluate and enhance the library's online interfaces. With an emphasis on supporting emerging digital scholarship, the candidate will also have the opportunity to participate in providing consultative or instructional support to students and faculty. This position reports to the library director.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
· Manage, administer, maintain, and ensure the interoperability of the library’s:
o integrated library system, Worldshare Management Services (making changes to modules in collaboration with the access services and cataloguing/acquisitions departments)
o discovery service, Worldshare Discovery (in collaboration with the research and instruction department)
o website
o digital repositories, Digital Commons and JSTORForum (in collaboration with the University Archivist and Special Collections Librarian)
o other software solutions, e.g.: Springshare Suite, SnagIt, etc. in collaboration with relevant library departments
· In collaboration with the Department of Information Technologies, perform initial troubleshooting of library hardware and software issues, including patron support
· Collect and analyze statistics related to library’s web services (website, digital repositories, Springshare Suite)
· Support faculty and students engaged in scholarly research to be shared through digital scholarship tools
· Identify, customize, implement and evaluate current and emerging technologies
· Serve as the library’s liaison to the University’s information technology department
· Serve as the library’s liaison to OCLC and other library technology services
· Serve on library, consortial, and University committees
 
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Serve the community and collect front-line information about library interfaces by serving regular hours at the library’s information desk, providing assistance via live and remote reference services
· Evening and weekend work may occasionally be required
· Incumbent may provide information literacy instruction, depending on library need and candidate interest
 
LICENSES, TOOLS, AND EQUIPMENT:

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
The incumbent is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Experience with library management systems, computer networks, Internet protocols and web servers
· Knowledge of current and recent trends in search and discovery systems, as well as understanding of user search behavior in academic settings
· Demonstrated experience with web development and accessibility standards
· Knowledge of trends and developments in digital scholarship and enthusiasm for creative and forward-thinking approaches to using digital tools and systems to accomplish scholarly goals
· Strong commitment to providing excellent and inclusive services to a diverse population of faculty, staff, students, and community members
· Strong evidence of commitment to improving users’ experience and knowledge of user experience design
· Demonstrated excellence working in a highly service-oriented environment
· Experience in introducing and implementing new IT solutions
· Demonstrated ability to manage and balance multiple projects and priorities
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
· ALA-accredited MLS degree

2022 RILA Conference: Save the Date & Call for Proposals

 


Save the Date! The Rhode Island Library Association 2022 Annual Conference will be held on May 25 - 26, 2022 at Bryant University in Smithfield, RI. The youth & school library track will be on Thursday, May 26, 2022. 
 
The conference theme is Restore Reconnect Reflect. The Conference Committee hopes that we will be able to get together in person for a restorative event that allows us to reconnect with each other and with the fundamentals of the library profession while reflecting on library services during trying times. The Conference Committee is monitoring the situation with the pandemic and will be prepared to move to a virtual conference should the necessity arise.
 
The Call for Proposals is now open and accepting your submissions. The committee strives to create a vibrant conference that will leave attendees invigorated and inspired. As part of this year's theme Restore Reconnect Reflect, we are looking for proposals that address core library services and highlight our fundamental library values including information access, intellectual freedom and censorship, building community, and equity, diversity and inclusion. Your proposal does not need to fit the theme to be considered for inclusion in the conference.
 
Please submit your proposals by Sunday, February 6, 2022, at the 2022 RILA Annual Conference Call for Proposals form. You will also find a link for a Google Doc with all required questions to help you more easily work on proposals before submission. We look forward to reading your proposals!

What Now? Reflection, Reckoning, and Recovery RBMS 2022 (Scholarship Applications)

The Rare Books and Manuscripts Section (RBMS) of the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) is currently accepting scholarship applications for the 2022 RBMS Conference, What Now? Reflection, Reckoning, and Recovery, the first hybrid RBMS conference, to be held in New Haven, CT and online, from June 21-24, 2022. 
 
The deadline to apply is January 24, 2022, and applicants will be notified on or before March 18, 2022.
 
RBMS is committed to increasing equity, diversity and inclusion in its membership and the special collections and archives professions. Accordingly, preference is given to applicants from underrepresented groups that have been historically marginalized or excluded due to race, ethnicity, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, economic background, age, and/or ability. For more information about the RBMS commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion, please visit the RBMS website. You can also give to the RBMS Scholarship Fund to directly impact these efforts.
 
Full and partial scholarships to the RBMS conference will be awarded. Full scholarships include a waiver of the conference registration fee (a $140 – $340 value depending on registration type) plus a travel stipend ($750). Partial scholarships provide complimentary registration (a $140 – $340 value depending on registration type) and may or may not include a travel stipend depending on applicant need/location ($400). The majority of scholarships will be awarded to support those who have not previously attended RBMS; a limited number of scholarships are available to individuals who have previously attended RBMS.
 
Eligibility
 
All candidates must be currently enrolled in a library, information science, or archival studies program; a graduate of such a program; OR currently employed or volunteering as a professional or paraprofessional in a rare books, special collections, or archives capacity.
 
Criteria
 
The Scholarships Committee will take into consideration the following criteria when reviewing applicants:
 
Evidence of commitment to and interest in the rare books, special collections, and/or archives fields
For first-time conference participants: Interest in contributing to the profession
For returning conference participants: Interest in contributing to the profession through proposed conference participation (speaker/moderator) and/or RBMS committee participation
Potential to benefit professionally from attendance at the conference
 
Financial need
 
Consideration
In awarding the scholarships, preference will be given to:
Applicants from underrepresented groups that have been historically marginalized or excluded due to race, ethnicity, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, economic background, age, and/or ability
 
Applicants employed or volunteering at an institution (or in a position) that primarily serves one or more underrepresented and/or historically marginalized group(s)

Requirements
 
Scholarship recipients are required to attend the RBMS conference and complete the conference evaluation. To help us ensure the ongoing improvement of the scholarship program, all scholarship recipients will be required to submit a post-conference evaluation letter by July 29, 2022.
