Chinese American Librarian Association (CALA) 2022 Scholarships

The Chinese American Librarian Association (CALA) is soliciting scholarship applications from students and new librarians. CALA offers several scholarships, including the CALA Scholarship of Library and Information Science, the Sheila Suen Lai Scholarship, and the Lisa Zhao Scholarship. 

 

Open to full-time students and new librarians who are of Chinese descent, these scholarships are designed to encourage professional and leadership development in Chinese American librarianship.

2022 Connecticut Information Literacy Conference (Virtual, Friday, June 10, 2022)

Teaching for Change: Reframing Information Literacy through Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Antiracism 

 

We are excited to announce that we are now accepting proposals for the 11th Annual Connecticut Information Literacy Conference, which will be held virtually on Friday, June 10, 2022. The conference will be free for all to attend.

 

We invite you and your colleagues to submit proposals for breakout workshops (45 - 50 minutes long with a 10 - 15 minute Q&A session). Team presenters, such as faculty, students, and librarians from all types of libraries, are highly encouraged to submit a proposal. We also encourage proposals from out-of-state colleagues. 

 

The theme of this year’s conference is: Teaching for Change: Reframing Information Literacy through Antiracism. Institutions of higher education throughout the country are reinforming their educational policies, processes and practices with regard to issues of diversity, equity and inclusion.“Critical information literacy refutes the neutrality of traditional information literacy and asks library educators and students to engage with the social and political dimensions of information, including production, dissemination, and reception” (Eamon Tewell 2016) This means that all information contains the inherent biases and limited world view of the author. How do we transform our information literacy practices to build upon our institutions’ DEI plan? Inspired by the recent ACRL Publication “Loaded Questions: The Framework for Information Literacy through a DEI Lens” (https://crln.acrl.org/.../crlnews/article/view/24597/32410), this theme welcomes presentations that address topics of diversity, equity and inclusion, and social justice as it relates to information literacy instruction.

Part time Night and Evening Circulation Supervisor position at Salve Regina (RI)

McKillop Library is looking for a 21 hour a week Night and Evening Circulation Supervisor to join our team! This position is September-May while classes are in session. The incumbent will serve on the library’s circulation desk Friday evening and 10-5pm Saturday, with other hours flexible.

 McKillop Library seeks highly reliable and service-oriented candidates for the position of Circulation Supervisor, Night and Weekend. The incumbent will provide exemplary service to library patrons while supporting their access to information, resources and materials. The Circulation Supervisor, Night and Weekend will provide circulation, interlibrary loan, and limited reference service, working closely with the circulation team to set and implement library policies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Oversees evening and weekend library circulation desk operations, opening, closing, handling emergency situations and maintaining library equipment.

·         Coordinates circulation desk student coverage gaps due to illness, vacations or other absences. Serves as primary contact for desk operations (including answering phones and departmental emails) during evenings.

·         Supports provision of interlibrary loan services.

·         In collaboration with the public services team, assesses current services and identifies improvements by analyzing user data and national academic library trends.

·         Assists with collection maintenance projects i.e.: shelving, shifting, pulling books, etc.

·         Ability to work weekend and evening hours required. Adjustment of regular schedule may be required during the semester.

 

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

May provide limited research service when library's research librarians are not available.

 

Requirements:

·         High school diploma required.

·         Prompt, accountable and reliable.

·         Demonstrated strong "people skills," including a positive, friendly, approachable and service-oriented demeanor.

Systems & Technology Librarian at Salve Regina (RI)

 

McKillop Library seeks a highly service-oriented, creative Systems & Technology Librarian to maintain and develop digital and technology services to support research, teaching, and learning at Salve Regina University. Working with other librarians, staff, and campus partners, the incumbent will envision and implement new technology services while continuing to evaluate and enhance the library's online interfaces. 2022 RILA Conference: Save the Date & Call for Proposals

 

Save the Date! The Rhode Island Library Association 2022 Annual Conference will be held on May 25 - 26, 2022 at Bryant University in Smithfield, RI. The youth & school library track will be on Thursday, May 26, 2022. 

 

The conference theme is Restore Reconnect Reflect. The Conference Committee hopes that we will be able to get together in person for a restorative event that allows us to reconnect with each other and with the fundamentals of the library profession while reflecting on library services during trying times. The Conference Committee is monitoring the situation with the pandemic and will be prepared to move to a virtual conference should the necessity arise.

 

The Call for Proposals is now open and accepting your submissions. The committee strives to create a vibrant conference that will leave attendees invigorated and inspired. As part of this year's theme Restore Reconnect Reflect, we are looking for proposals that address core library services and highlight our fundamental library values including information access, intellectual freedom and censorship, building community, and equity, diversity and inclusion. Your proposal does not need to fit the theme to be considered for inclusion in the conference.

What Now? Reflection, Reckoning, and Recovery RBMS 2022 (Scholarship Applications)

The Rare Books and Manuscripts Section (RBMS) of the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) is currently accepting scholarship applications for the 2022 RBMS Conference, What Now? Reflection, Reckoning, and Recovery, the first hybrid RBMS conference, to be held in New Haven, CT and online, from June 21-24, 2022. 

 

The deadline to apply is January 24, 2022, and applicants will be notified on or before March 18, 2022.

 

RBMS is committed to increasing equity, diversity and inclusion in its membership and the special collections and archives professions. Accordingly, preference is given to applicants from underrepresented groups that have been historically marginalized or excluded due to race, ethnicity, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, economic background, age, and/or ability. For more information about the RBMS commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion, please visit the RBMS website. You can also give to the RBMS Scholarship Fund to directly impact these efforts.

 

Full and partial scholarships to the RBMS conference will be awarded. Full scholarships include a waiver of the conference registration fee (a $140 – $340 value depending on registration type) plus a travel stipend ($750). Partial scholarships provide complimentary registration (a $140 – $340 value depending on registration type) and may or may not include a travel stipend depending on applicant need/location ($400). The majority of scholarships will be awarded to support those who have not previously attended RBMS; a limited number of scholarships are available to individuals who have previously attended RBMS.

 

Eligibility

 

All candidates must be currently enrolled in a library, information science, or archival studies program; a graduate of such a program; OR currently employed or volunteering as a professional or paraprofessional in a rare books, special collections, or archives capacity.

 

Criteria

 

The Scholarships Committee will take into consideration the following criteria when reviewing applicants:

 

Evidence of commitment to and interest in the rare books, special collections, and/or archives fields

For first-time conference participants: Interest in contributing to the profession

For returning conference participants: Interest in contributing to the profession through proposed conference participation (speaker/moderator) and/or RBMS committee participation

Potential to benefit professionally from attendance at the conference

Consideration

In awarding the scholarships, preference will be given to:

Applicants from underrepresented groups that have been historically marginalized or excluded due to race, ethnicity, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, economic background, age, and/or ability

 

Applicants employed or volunteering at an institution (or in a position) that primarily serves one or more underrepresented and/or historically marginalized group(s)

Requirements

 

Scholarship recipients are required to attend the RBMS conference and complete the conference evaluation. To help us ensure the ongoing improvement of the scholarship program, all scholarship recipients will be required to submit a post-conference evaluation letter by July 29, 2022.
