SALARY RANGE: $65,744 to $80,696

The Ferguson Library, an IMLS 2021 finalist for the National Medal for Museum and Library Service award, is seeking a dynamic and inspired individual to be our Programming and Outreach Librarian. The candidate must be passionate, energetic, a self-starter and team player. The ideal candidate will ensure high standards in customer service, programming and outreach. This individual will play a critical role in expanding the library’s userbase, visibility and impact.

Duties include: 

  • Work closely with Associate Director of community engagement to plan and facilitate a schedule of internal and external library events.  
  • Initiates, plans, oversees, and conducts a variety of programs and activities to encourage the use of the library by adults including: films, concerts, reading clubs, speakers and performers, and other special events. 
  • Evaluate presenter proposals to maintain a database of superior program options which fulfill the needs of diverse communities and target audiences. 
  • Identify and develop lists of community partners, business, public and private agencies and events for outreach activities.  
  • Maintain a schedule of outreach events and ensure staffing for events. 
  • Review and analyze local demographic data to identify and coordinate the development of new users and activities to support community need.  
  • Oversee aspects of adult programs, exhibits, and special events including logistics, publicity, execution and evaluation.  
  • Oversee aspects of virtual and hybrid programs from registration to recording of presentations.  
  • Prepare and maintain displays, booklists, pathfinders and other materials for outreach and programing events.  
  • Compile and deliver assessment reports on all outreach and program activities including attendance figures and feedback commentary. 
  • Develop and maintain a budget for programs and outreach services 
  • Occasional staffing at reference and readers advisory desks. 
  • Other duties as assigned by Associate Director of community engagement 

 

Qualifications: 

  • Masters degree in Library and Information Science desirable  
  • Knowledge and/or experience working in an urban public library. 
  • Effective communication skills on both oral and written platforms.  
  • Excellent interpersonal skills. Sensitivity and respect in working in a diverse community of staff and patrons. 
  • Detail oriented, ability to prioritize and manage multiple programs with tight timelines and schedules. 
  • A strong understanding and commitment to EDISJ values and its application in public library settings. 
  • Knowledge of and/or experience in contemporary streaming technologies.  
  • Ability to work well independently and with members of the team.   
  • Availability and flexibility to work multiple evenings and weekends.  
  • Proficiency in other languages a plus.
