JCLC 2022 Conference Attendance Awards

The 2022 JCLC Conference Attendance Award provides $1,500 to help support conference attendance with prepayment of lodging, registration, and conference gala event. Twenty-five (25) scholarship recipients will be chosen to receive conference attendance funding. Any pre-paid residual funding left after costs for lodging, registration, and gala will be used to support expenses with travel and food during the conference.

Purpose
The purpose of the JCLC Conference Attendance Awards is to promote diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging, and to provide networking opportunities for JCLC attendees within the profession.

Selection Criteria
Candidates must apply online and submit a 500 word essay illustrating their qualifications for this award by responding to these two prompts: 1) What you feel you will gain personally from attending 2022 JCLC, and 2) How you believe attending 2022 JCLC will impact your professional aspirations? Selection is based on the quality and appropriateness of the submitted essays. Economic need is considered when all other criteria are equal.
  • First-time JCLC conference attendees
  • Library Staff or Paraprofessionals
  • Library School Students
  • Early Career Librarians (5 years or less)
  • Applicant must be a member of any of the National Associations of Librarians of Color (NALCo): American Indian Library Association (AILA), the Asian/Pacific American Librarians Association (APALA), the Black Caucus of the American Library Association (BCALA), the Chinese American Librarians Association (CALA), and REFORMA: The National Association to Promote Library & Information Services to Latinos and the Spanish-speaking
  • Past recipients of the JCLC Conference Scholarship Travel Award are not eligible.
Each NALCo will have five designated awards for their members:
  • Two student awards
  • One early-career award
  • One mid-career award
  • One library staff/paraprofessional award
Seven recipients will be awarded the 2022 EBSCO JCLC Conference Attendance Award.

Nine recipients will be awarded the 2022 Latanya Jenkins Memorial JCLC Conference Attendance Award.

Recipient Responsibilities
  • Award recipients must attend the entire conference.
  • Award recipients are required to submit an article/blog post to JCLC regarding their conference experience for use on the website to advertise future conferences.
  • Recipients are encouraged to serve on any future JCLC Committees.
Deadlines
Applications are due May 31, 2022, and will be reviewed by the JCLC Awards & Scholarship Committee members. Incomplete submissions will not be considered. Recipients will be announced/notified on or before early bird registration ends.

The JCLC 2022 Steering Committee has engaged in robust conversations around COVID-19 health and safety considerations since the beginning of our conference planning.
